Google Review Notifications in Telegram, Without Building a Bot

You can wire Google reviews to Telegram yourself with BotFather and Zapier, IFTTT or n8n. Or press Connect, tap Start, and let ReputeMap's bot do it. What each route takes, step by step.

Google doesn’t send review notifications to Telegram, so you have two options. Build it: create a bot with @BotFather, then run a Zapier, IFTTT or n8n flow that watches your Google Business Profile and posts to your chat. Or use a review tool with Telegram built in. In ReputeMap you press Connect Telegram, Telegram opens, you tap Start, and every new bad review lands in that chat, private or group, within minutes of being detected. There is no bot to create and no token to keep safe. In a private chat, a 1–3★ alert also brings the reply the AI drafted, with two buttons: ✅ Publish draft and ✏️ Edit & publish.

Key takeaways

  • Telegram is the fastest channel to set up. One tap on Start. On a computer, scan a QR code with your phone.
  • It works in a private chat or a team group. The group is what makes it useful for several locations: everyone sees the alert and the “I’ve got it” underneath.
  • The DIY route is real but has moving parts. Your own bot and token, a chat ID, an automation flow and its plan limits.
  • You choose which reviews alert you. 1★ only, up to 2★, up to 3★ (the default) or up to 4★.
  • If the bot gets removed, you’re told. The Alerts page says so and offers Reconnect, and your other channels keep working.
  • A private chat can publish the reply. A 1–3★ alert arrives with an AI-drafted reply: ✅ Publish draft posts exactly that text in one tap, ✏️ Edit & publish lets you change it first. A team group gets the alert without publish buttons.

How do Google review notifications in Telegram work if you build them yourself?

The search results for this are automation templates: Zapier’s Telegram message for new Google Business Profile reviews, an IFTTT applet, and n8n workflows. They share the same parts:

  1. Your own Telegram bot. Telegram’s bot documentation describes the process: send /newbot to @BotFather, choose a name and a username, and you get an authentication token. Anyone who has that token controls the bot, so it has to be stored like a password.
  2. The chat ID. Zapier’s Telegram action sends “a message from your bot” to a chat ID you supply, so you need to start the bot, or add it to your group, and then look up that chat’s ID.
  3. The automation. A flow with a “new review” trigger on your Google Business Profile and a “send message” step. Check how often it looks for reviews: IFTTT’s applet page says its checks run every 5 minutes on Pro plans and every hour on the free plan.
  4. Everything else. A filter so that only low ratings alert you, a message format with the location name in it, the same again for each location you add, and a way to notice when the flow has stopped.

For one location and someone who likes building things, that’s a fine setup. With several locations and managers who come and go, the upkeep is the cost.

How do you connect Telegram in ReputeMap?

You need to be an owner or admin of the workspace. Open Alerts and find the Telegram card.

On your phone

  1. Press Connect Telegram.
  2. Telegram opens on the ReputeMap bot. Tap Start.
  3. Go back to the Alerts page. It updates by itself and shows the chat as connected. The bot also confirms in the chat.

On a computer

  1. Press Connect Telegram. Telegram opens in a new tab. If you use Telegram on this computer, press Start there.
  2. No Telegram on this computer? The card shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone’s camera and tap Start on the phone.
  3. The page on your computer updates by itself.

The tap on Start is needed because Telegram bots can only write to people who have started them. The link works once and expires after 30 minutes. If it expires, press Get a new link.

Then press Test Telegram only. A sample alert should arrive in the chat within a few seconds.

Private chat or team group?

  • A private chat is right for an owner who handles reviews personally. It’s you and the bot.
  • A team group is right when managers share the job. On the waiting screen choose Add to a team group instead, pick the group, and tap Start. You need to be allowed to add members to that group. Alerts are then posted for everyone, and the conversation about who replies happens right under the alert.

Only a private chat gets the publish buttons. A group gets the same alerts without them, so whoever picks a review up replies from the alert email or the inbox.

A workspace connects one chat at a time. To move from your private chat to a group later, press Disconnect and connect again, choosing the group. All locations in the workspace alert the same chat, and every alert names its location in the first line.

What does the Telegram alert look like?

A sample 1★ alert in a private chat (made-up review):

⭐ New 1★ review — Downtown

Dana K.: Waited 40 minutes and nobody said a word.

Drafted reply: Hi Dana, you’re right: 40 minutes without a word from us isn’t okay, and I’m sorry. Next time, ask for me at the front desk and I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.

[ ✅ Publish draft ] [ ✏️ Edit & publish ]

✅ Publish draft posts exactly that text to Google in one tap. ✏️ Edit & publish lets you change it first. Nothing is posted to Google until a person taps Publish. The reply is drafted in the language the review was written in, and on the free trial it is drafted inside the first 2 alerts; on paid plans, inside every alert. In a team group the same alert arrives without the two buttons, and the reply happens from the alert email or the inbox, where an AI reply draft is one click away. The ways to publish from an inbox or a phone are compared in how to reply to Google reviews from your email or phone.

Alerts are sent once per review, only for new reviews at or below your star line. Reviews that already existed when you connected Google are imported silently, so the chat isn’t flooded on the first day.

Where ReputeMap fits

ReputeMap is Google review software for owners and operators of 1 to 30 locations. Alerts are one part of it:

  • Negative-review alerts by email, Telegram and WhatsApp, with one test button for all of them and a history that shows where each alert was delivered and who acknowledged it.
  • The reply drafted inside the 1–3★ alert, published in one tap from a Telegram private chat or from the alert email with no login.
  • Every location’s reviews in one inbox, with AI reply drafts you edit and publish to Google.
  • Honest review requests by email and QR code, with no review gating.
  • One monthly report across all locations.

Plans: email, Telegram and WhatsApp alerts are part of every plan — Solo at $19/mo for one location, Starter at $29/mo for up to 5, Growth at $79/mo for up to 15 and Pro at $129/mo for up to 30. Locations are included, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial (card required, $0 today). WhatsApp connects once you’re on full access — during the trial that’s one click on the Alerts page.

WhatsApp and full access: Telegram and WhatsApp alerts are on every plan. WhatsApp connects once your workspace is on full access — any paid plan; during the 14-day trial one click on the Alerts page starts full access and connects WhatsApp right away. The WhatsApp guide is here: Google review notifications on WhatsApp.

One honest note: if you have a single location and a review or two a month, Google’s own notifications may be enough. The hub explains how to switch them on and where they fall short: Google review notifications.

Start your 14-day free trial, connect Google, and connect Telegram from the Alerts page. The full setup and troubleshooting are in the docs: Negative-review alerts: email, Telegram and WhatsApp. For what to write once the alert arrives, see how to respond to negative reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Google review notifications in Telegram?

Not from Google, which only notifies by email and inside Search and Maps. You can build it with an automation tool such as Zapier, IFTTT or n8n and a Telegram bot, or use a review tool with Telegram built in. ReputeMap sends negative-review alerts through its own bot, @ReputeMapBot: press Connect Telegram, tap Start, and new bad reviews arrive in that chat within minutes of being detected.

Is there a Telegram bot for Google reviews?

Yes. ReputeMap runs @ReputeMapBot for its customers. It is not a bot you configure: you connect it from the Alerts page of your ReputeMap workspace with a one-time link, and it then posts every new Google review at or below the star rating you chose, with the location, the reviewer's name, the review text and a link to reply. In a private chat, a 1–3★ alert also carries the reply the AI drafted, with ✅ Publish draft and ✏️ Edit & publish buttons; a group gets the alert without publish buttons. There is no BotFather step and no token to store.

Can Google review alerts go to a Telegram group?

Yes. On the Alerts page press Connect Telegram, then choose Add to a team group instead, pick the group and tap Start. Every alert is then posted in that group, so the whole team sees it and can agree underneath who replies. A group gets the alerts without the publish buttons a private chat has. A workspace connects one chat at a time, either a private chat or a group. To switch, disconnect and connect again.

Do I need BotFather or Zapier to get review alerts in Telegram?

Only if you build it yourself. The DIY route means creating a bot with @BotFather, keeping its token safe, finding the chat ID, and running a Zapier, IFTTT or n8n flow that watches your Google Business Profile. With ReputeMap none of that exists on your side: the bot is ReputeMap's own, and connecting it is one tap on Start in Telegram.

What happens if someone removes the bot from the group?

Telegram alerts stop, and ReputeMap tells you instead of failing silently. The Alerts page shows that Telegram alerts stopped because someone sent /stop or the bot was removed or blocked in that chat, and that alerts are going to your other channels, such as email, until you reconnect. Press Reconnect, tap Start again, and the chat is back.

How do I turn Telegram review alerts off?

Send /stop to the bot in that chat, or press Disconnect on the Telegram card of the Alerts page. You can also switch the Telegram channel off while keeping the chat connected, or pause all alerts with the switch at the top of the page. Email alerts are separate and keep going unless you turn them off as well.

Which ReputeMap plan includes Telegram alerts?

Email, Telegram and WhatsApp alerts are part of every plan: Solo at $19 a month for one location, Starter at $29 for up to 5, Growth at $79 for up to 15 and Pro at $129 for up to 30. Telegram works from the first sync; WhatsApp connects once the workspace is on full access (one click during the trial). Locations are included in the price and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.
