20 Review Request Templates That Actually Get Google Reviews
Copy, paste, add your review link, send. Email, SMS and WhatsApp versions — plus industry-specific asks that don't sound like a robot wrote them.
Most happy customers never leave a review for one reason: nobody asked, or the ask arrived as a wall of corporate text with no link. These review request templates fix both. Every template follows the same three rules — thank first, one clear ask, direct link — and none of them gate or filter (that’s banned, and for good reason).
Before you start, grab your direct review link with our free review link generator — it’s the [REVIEW LINK] in every template below. Replace [NAME], [BUSINESS] and [YOUR NAME] as you go.
In a hurry? Jump straight to the right template:

| No response after 3–5 days | 3 (email) or 9 (SMS) |
| Just fixed a customer’s problem | 4 |
| Zero-effort, on every invoice | 5 |
| In-person, at the counter | 20 (QR card) |
| Regulated industry (medical, legal) | 13 or 16 |

The rules that make templates work
- Timing beats wording. Same-day asks convert several times better than week-later asks. Ask at the moment of happiness.
- One ask, one reminder. More than one reminder annoys people and violates most spam rules. Include an opt-out in email campaigns.
- Ask everyone. Selecting only happy customers is review gating — prohibited by the FTC and Google. Everyone gets the same ask; the unhappy ones you’ll want to hear from anyway (see how to respond to negative reviews).
- The link does the heavy lifting. Never make a customer search for your business. Direct review link or QR code, always.
The full asking strategy — channels, cadence, what to fix first — is in how to get more Google reviews and how to ask customers for reviews.
Or stop copy-pasting entirely
Templates get you started; the businesses that win run the asks on autopilot. Fair warning on fit: if you send a handful of requests a month, copy-pasting from this page is honestly all you need — and if SMS is your main channel, note that ReputeMap only automates the email side (templates 6–11 stay manual, from your own number). Where the tool earns its fee is volume: ReputeMap sends review request emails from your business name with your wording, tracks every click, sends the one polite reminder automatically, handles opt-outs, and gives every location a tracked QR code — then drafts your replies with AI when the reviews land. From $29/month, setup takes about 15 minutes — start a 14-day free trial.
Frequently asked questions
What should a review request message say?
Three things: a genuine thank-you, one direct sentence asking for a Google review, and the direct link that opens your review form. Keep it under 60 words, send it from a real name, and ask within a few hours of the visit or job. Skip the essay — the shorter the message, the higher the conversion.
Is it legal to ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes — asking for honest reviews is allowed and encouraged by both Google and the FTC. What's prohibited is review gating (only asking customers you know are happy, or routing unhappy ones away from Google), offering incentives for reviews, and buying reviews. Ask everyone the same way and you're compliant.
When is the best time to send a review request?
At the moment of peak satisfaction: same day for restaurants and salons, right after job completion for home services, 1–2 days after treatment for medical and dental. A polite reminder 3–5 days later to non-responders roughly doubles total conversion — one reminder, not five.
Can I automate these review request templates?
The email ones, yes. ReputeMap sends review request emails with your wording from your business name, tracks clicks, sends one automatic reminder, and handles one-click opt-outs — plus printable QR codes for the in-person ask. SMS and WhatsApp templates here are for sending manually from your own number.
